Chandigarh

Chandigarh, a Union Territory and Capital of both Haryana and Punjab states, is India's most modern and well planned city, designed in 1953 by the French architect Le Corbusier. The town derives its name from Goddess Chandi Devi whose temple stands about 15 kms away. Chandigarh is guarded by the Shivalik hills on one side and by two small rivers on either side. It is best known for its outstanding modern architecture - The Secretariat, the State Library, the High Court, Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) and the Punjab University.
