Mysore

Mysore, once the capital of the Wodeyar dynasty, is one of India's finest cities and is known for its sandalwood, silks and incense. The Maharaja's Palace - built in Indosaracenic style is profusely decorated and gilded, and the 97000 light bulbs which outline its exterior are lit on Sunday evenings. The other main place of interest is Chamundi Hill with the Sri Chamundeswari Temple and 5m high Nandi Bull carved out of solid rock. Mysore's most famous festival is the 10 day Dussehra in October- November when the entire city gives itself up to celebrations that include majestic processions of decorated elephants, dance and music
