Palitana

Palitana - city of Jain temples, lies at the feet of the Shatrunjaya hills, in the eastern part of the Saurashtra District of Gujerat. From this town a 90 minute climb up a flight of steps leads to a cluster of 863 hill top Jain temples built over a period of 900 years. On a moonlit night these ivory hued temples conjure up the vision of a fantasy land. The ornate temples have deities studded with gems and jewels. There is also a Muslim shrine on the hilltop.
